1 Corinthians 12-14
What is Your Motivation?
Unity in Love
Now the desire for spiritual gifts is healthy to promote growth, but it is helpful to examine the motivations within us for such desire. Desires may grow from both selfish and un-selfish motivations. Seeing selfishness in motivation could feel like a curse, but seeing it actually awakens an opportunity to see the glory of seeking such growth for its impact on others instead. It is also an opportunity for repentance. Consider deeper the reason for your desire. Meditate on the affect your gift could have on others.
13:13 “But now abide faith, hope, love, these three;
but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Cor 13:13 NASB
His gifts within us bring great personal joy, but more significantly, His gifts manifested through us to others brings a fuller love to many. God’s love is not isolated within Him. Praise our God – He extended His love to us through His Son! May we follow His lead, seek to extend the benefits of our gifts to others, and be anchored in a zeal to spread to others the love we have received.
May our lives be full of opportunity to share, to spread, to testify – of the many gifts of love and wisdom with which we have been fed and nurtured in our Lord
