Promises

What is the promise in Acts 2:33

Act 2:33Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

The promise of scripture is a comfort to all who live in Christ.  A pattern of re-reading scripture allows time to see deeper and rest in the promises of God.  The promise of Acts 2:33 deserves great consideration.  A promise is a commitment to give or do something by one person to another.  Analysis will involve four major components: 1) the giver, 2) the receiver, 3) the gift given, 4) the motivation of the giver, and 5) the significance to the receiver.  The consideration may start with an evaluation these four main components using the following questions:

Answer these questions based on verse 33 and the verses that precede it in Acts Chapter  2.

  • Who promises to give a gift
  • Who receives the gift
  • What gift is given by promise
  • Why is this promise made by the One who gives?
  • Why is this promise important to the One who receives?
  • What does the One who receives the gift do with it – and why?

These look like simple and basic questions, but deep love can be revealed through deep and prayerful consideration and meditation so take your time.

The following material prompts a discussion on this matter, but I strongly encourage you not to proceed until you have digested this Page One with deep meditation – perhaps re-considering it for multiple days before proceeding.
